FOX reveals new 'American Idol' schedule

Fans anxiously awaiting the return of "American Idol" can start planning their weeknights for the next few months, as Fox has announced a detailed schedule for the series. The show is set to kick off with a two-night, four-hour event on Tuesday, January 15, and Wednesday, January 16. The early audition episodes will be the focus of the four-hour premiere. They'll continue through hour-long episodes that will air on January 22, 23, 29, and 30, as well as February 5 and 6.
Viewers who can't stand to watch terrible singers humiliate themselves will want to start tuning in on Tuesday, February 12, which is when the Hollywood Round will begin. It'll kick off with a two-hour episode, followed by a one-hour episode the following night revealing the Top 24. The Top 12 males and the Top 12 females will perform in two-hour episodes airing on Tuesday, February 19 and Wednesday, February 20. Those performances will be the first to allow audience voting, which means you can expect the elimination of two men and two women on February 21.

Daughtry, Underwood shine at AMA's

"American Idol" veterans Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood swept the American Music Awards on Sunday, a ceremony that changed its voting rules to mimic the fan-based element of the juggernaut talent show. Daughtry's eponymous rock band won all three categories in which it was nominated. Country singer Underwood won both of her races, as well as a prize determined by text messages.
Daughtry, one of four acts with a leading three nods each, won for favorite breakthrough artist, favorite adult contemporary artist, and favorite pop/rock album. Underwood, who won the fourth season of "Idol," went to No. 1 last month with her second album, "Carnival Ride." Earlier this year, she won the best new artist award at the Grammy Awards. Her American Music Award honors were for favorite female artist and favorite album, both in the country category.

'American Idol' finally captures an Emmy

With a dash of charity and some posthumous help from Elvis Presley, smash hit "American Idol" clinched its first Emmy in six years on recently to avoid becoming the biggest loser in the history of U.S. television's highest honors. The amateur singing contest that ranks as America's most watched TV series won its prize for outstanding technical direction for a $76 million benefit special in which producers created the illusion of Elvis performing a duet with Celine Dion.
The "Idol" win came during the four-hour presentation of the 59th annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards, mostly honoring achievements in categories like makeup, costumes, sound editing and art direction. The ceremony served as a prelude to the higher-profile Primetime Emmy Awards on September 16. Fox, which broadcasted the Primetime Emmys, is the home network of "American Idol."
The program had amassed 22 Emmy losses, without a single win, during the course of its hugely popular but award-starved six-season run. That put "Idol" four losses away from surpassing the sitcom "Newhart" as the show that had collected the most Emmy nominations -- 25 -- without winning. The victory for technical direction, camera work and video on a TV special spared "Idol" the distinction of setting a new Emmy-losing record.

Idol Waves in DANGER: Help save Internet radio!
Most of you have already heard about the Copyright Royalty Board's plans to implement a substantial royalty spike for all Internet radio station providers. The rate would be much higher than that of terrestrial and satellite radio stations combined. At first, I didn't think it was such a big deal. In fact, I thought Live365 wanted more money.
But, as I began to read about the situation, it dawned on me. Idol Waves may be gone in less than a month. Almost a three-year personal investment, Idol Waves has become part of my life. I'm sure it has also become part of yours, along with many of the artists we play. To see it all diminish before our eyes would be devastating.
When I launched the non-profit station on October 8, 2005, I wanted to help the American Idol fans keep up to date with their favorites without having to search dozens of radio staions and Websites for music. However, I soon realized how much Internet radio has also helped the lesser-known, independent artists get their music out to thousands of listeners.
Consider Heather Piccinini. Though she appeared on American Idol 3 and reached the Top 32, most people had forgotten about her. That is, until she reached the Idol Waves top 10 for multiple weeks in 2006 with her popular hit single, "What's Already Broken". Idol Waves gave her a chance when terrestrial and satellite wouldn't have thought twice about it. She's just one example of the artists we've been able to help.
If the new royalty rates become official, we would all lose - listeners, artists, and management. Please help save Idol Waves and Internet radio! Please contact your Congressmen and ask them to support the Internet Radio Equality Act . You can do so right here. You can also learn more about our plight by checking out SaveNetRadio.org and Live365.com.
Thanks for taking time to read this message. I hope you will be able to listen to Idol Waves for many years to come.
